Netflix announced on Wednesday that Forever has been renewed for a second season. The streaming platform debuted the series on May 8.

Threads post from @netflix: FOREVER has been renewed for SEASON 2

Creator Mara Brock Akil reimagined the classic 1975 novel by Judy Blume under the same name.

“We’re honored, we’re excited, and we’re ready to go even deeper,” said Brock Akil.

My Fangirl Feels

I will admit that as of writing about this news I am only four episodes into Forever (my mom & I are watching together), but y’all this story is very deep, complex and heartwarming.

As our lead couple works through the high school struggles that they face like bullying, college planning and uncertain friendships, one cannot help but relate to how challenging it can be to also add a lover into the mix.

While most of their problems so far boil down to simple miscommunications, there’s so much more to unpack for both of these young teens that are just trying to make their parents proud.

In the beginning of 2025, social media was full of black shows being cancelled, and there was a lot of hurt on the timeline.

  • “Bel-Air”
  • “Rap Sh!t”
  • “How to Die Alone”
  • and many others..

It really feels like a win seeing Forever get a renewal so soon after it just premiered on Netflix. I’ll certainly be rooting for Mara Brock Akil and the entire cast and crew for the series!
